Zachary “Zac” Nickman was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. He has lived throughout the Intermountain U.S. in his 25 years of life and currently resides in Logan, Utah. Zac has worked in clay since 2016 and graduated from Utah State University with both a B.F.A. in Ceramics and a B.S. in Forest Ecology in 2021. He is passionate about nature and enjoys spending time outdoors. He makes functional pottery and furniture. Most recently his functional pots have taken on an environmental theme, addressing the ecological issues around him.
I work in both clay and wood, two earthly materials which provide a plethora of options for making things. Through design and craftspersonship, I strive to create functional objects that work well and encourage contemplation. My work is a derivative of my fascinations with the natural world and functional domestic objects. Using landscapes and natural resource dependence as inspiration for surface and concept, I craft objects that also speak to the state of our environment. My hope is to inspire users to reflect on their eco-footprints and the many ways in which our lives impact the world around us.
