This workshop will focus on using the potter’s wheel as a tool to generate forms for sculptural assemblage. Through completing a series of wheel throwing and hand building projects, participants will develop new ideas to integrate into their ceramic practice. If you can comfortably throw a cylinder and large bowl and wish to explore something new in your work, you are ready!
Participant Required Materials:
- Two boxes of H555 clay to start
- Throwing kit: apron, bucket, sponges, ribs, pintool, old hand towel, cut off wire
- Fettling knife, rasps, texturing tools of any kind, bristle brushes, measuring tape or ruler, heat gun or hair dryer, short extension cord.

About Rob Froese

Biography
Rob Froese is a ceramic artist and instructor making objects of use and contemplation that include cups, plates, vase forms, wall works, and sitesensitive gallery installations. Raised in Saskatchewan, Rob’s ceramic practice has been strongly influenced by 15 years of making and exhibiting in Japan.
Since 2015, he has produced work and taught out of a Saskatoon studio, Medalta International Artists in Residence, Medicine Hat, and the Alberta University of the Arts in Calgary, where he is a Sessional Ceramics Faculty member.
His work is informed by an art-centred upbringing, travel and work experiences in Canada, Mexico, Europe and Southeast Asia, and formal art studies at the University of Saskatchewan (BA), University of Regina (BFA), and Alberta University of the Arts (MFA Craft Media).
Rob’s ceramic work employs a growing variety of clay bodies, forming techniques, and diverse kiln firing methods.
