For our one-day programs, we invite you to step back in time and immerse yourself in the world of craftsmanship, industry, and creativity at Medalta. Set within the walls of a once-bustling factory, this experience is part museum visit, part creative retreat.
Your day includes:

Hands-on Heritage: Clay and Play for Adults (18+)

Start your summer by allowing your inner child to play! Step back in time and immerse yourself in the fascinating world of craftsmanship and industry at Medalta. This hands-on, immersive experience includes museum exploration, a nature walk, art, and clay projects; explore the rich history of pottery and industrial innovation while learning new skills and enjoying a day of discovery.
ART & EXPLORATION
Ages 13–18
July 3 OR August 7 | 9:00am–4:00pm | $85 (+GST)
Get your hands dirty (in the best way possible)! Spend the day at Medalta diving into clay, exploring behind-the-scenes spaces, and making cool stuff that’s actually useful. You’ll learn hand-building techniques to create pottery and sculpture, plus pick up some creative skills you’ll want to keep in your back pocket. It’s art, adventure, and a little bit of industrial grit—all in one unforgettably fun day.
FIELD SCHOOL @ MEDALTA
Hands in the Dirt. History in the Making.
Dig into the past this summer with our Archaeology Field School @ Medalta! Based in the heart of Medicine Hat’s Historic Clay District, this is your chance to uncover real stories, real artifacts, and the industrial heritage that shaped Canada’s ceramic legacy.
Participants will be working alongside Archaeologist, Dr. Talva Jacobson, to locate and excavate a Historic Stable used to shelter draft horses employed at Medalta sometime between 1912 and 1954.
Dates: July 21 – August 8, 2025
Time: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM daily (please arrive by 8:45 AM)
Ages: 16+
Investment: $350/week (multi-week discounts available)
Lunch: Bring your own
Lodging: Accommodation not provided – participants must arrange their own
Swag: Students receive custom water bottles and hats

Register for one, two, or all three weeks. Each week offers participants hands-on excavation, site mapping, artifact washing, and story-building. Multi-week participants take on leadership roles and deepen their skills through expanded lab work and presentation opportunities. No experience is required.
Spots are limited to 14 participants per week – don’t wait!

A full refund (minus a $25 administration fee) will be issued if you cancel by the registration deadline. For cancellations after the registration deadline or no-shows, we will be unable to issue any refund. If you need to cancel due to medical reasons (documentation required), you will receive a partial refund.
