ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
With the start of a new era @ Medalta and our new Exhibition Coordinator in place, we are opening the doors of the Yuill Family Gallery to celebrate the incredible talent within our artistic community! The first annual Community Artist Exhibition is your chance to share your vision, your voice, and your creative spirit in one of Medicine Hat’s most inspiring spaces surrounded by the history of clay, craftsmanship, and innovation.
Through an open call for proposals, artists are invited to present ideas for exhibitions that explore creativity in all its forms. Whether you’re an emerging artist finding your footing or a seasoned maker ready to experiment, this program offers a platform to connect with audiences and showcase your work in a heritage setting unlike any other.
At Medalta, we believe art lives best when it’s shared. By hosting this annual exhibition, we continue to build bridges between the past and present, heritage and innovation, craft and contemporary art, all within the heart of the Historic Clay District.
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION COORDINATOR
Jolina Galera is Medalta’s Collections & Exhibitions Coordinator, bringing together her passion for storytelling through both collections care and exhibition design. She’s been part of the Medalta team for nearly two years – first as our Collections Manager, and now expanding her role to include lead exhibition development over the past few months.
Jolina has already co-curated Collection/Recollection, as well as coordinated Canadian Made: Ceramics and the Spirit of a Nation and Cross the Ocean exhibitions @ Medalta, helping connect visitors with the stories behind the work. With a background in curatorial and collections roles across museums and galleries, Jolina is excited to help shape the next chapter of our exhibition program while continuing her hands-on work preserving the collection that started it all.
Heres’ what she has to say about this new open call for the community exhibition,
“Launching this community-focused exhibition has been an exciting project for me as I stepped into the role of Exhibitions Coordinator. As we reimagine our exhibitions programming at Medalta, this open call is a meaningful way to invite artists into our gallery space and highlight the creativity that exists within our community. I’m thrilled to help shape full-year schedules of engaging exhibitions, with opportunities like this one.”
