Interested in applying for an exhibition?
The Community Artist Exhibition is an annual opportunity for artists to showcase their work in our Yuill Family Gallery space. Artists at any stage of their practice from across Canada (emerging or established) are welcome to apply.
Our gallery space measures approximately 3,500 sq. ft. and includes the following features:
Stationary and moveable walls
Plinths in various sizes
Display shelves
Exposed brick & factory-era architectural features
Access to heritage resources
Submission Guidelines
Proposal Requirements
Exhibition proposals must include the following:
- Artist CV
- Artist Bio
- Exhibition statement and/or expression of concept
- Samples of past or in-progress work (minimum 5), including images and details
- A brief statement on why Medalta is of interest as an exhibition space
Submission Process
- All proposals must be submitted through Google Forms.
- The 2027 Open Call for Proposals submission form can be found on our website or through here.
- Only fully completed proposals will be accepted. Incomplete submissions will not be considered.
Proposal Format
- Proposals may be submitted as either:
- A solo exhibition; or
- A group exhibition of up to three artists.
- Group exhibitions must be submitted as one proposal. They may be organized around a common theme or highlight individual concepts.
- All proposals must clearly outline how the artist(s) intend to fill the gallery space.
- If an individual artist cannot fully occupy the gallery space, they are encouraged to apply as part of a group (see The Gallery Space for details).
Eligibility
- Artists at any stage of their practice – emerging or established – from across Canada are invited to submit a proposal.
- Due to the capacity and limitations of staffing and the gallery space, applicants should be mindful that certain intricate installation and shipping requirements may not be Proposals will be reviewed and selected by the Collections & Exhibitions Manager.
Content Guidelines
- All proposals must follow the exhibition standards of Medalta’s Yuill Family Gallery.
- Artists should keep in mind that the gallery is located within an industrial heritage museum that welcomes a wide audience, including children, families, and seniors.
- Proposals containing material or language that may be offensive or unsuitable for a broad audience may not be considered.

Every year, Medalta opens the doors of the Yuill Family Gallery to celebrate the incredible talent within our artistic community. The Community Artist Exhibition is your chance to share your vision, your voice, and your creative spirit in one of Medicine Hat’s most inspiring spaces surrounded by the history of clay, craftsmanship, and innovation.
Through an Open Call for Proposals, artists are invited to present ideas for exhibitions that explore creativity in all its forms. Whether you’re an emerging artist finding your footing or a seasoned maker ready to experiment, this program offers a platform to connect with audiences and showcase your work in a heritage setting unlike any other.
At Medalta, we believe art lives best when it’s shared. By hosting this annual exhibition, we continue to build bridges between the past and present, heritage and innovation, craft and contemporary art, all within the heart of the Historic Clay District.

Yuill Family Gallery
THE GALLERY SPACE
The Community Artist Exhibition will be displayed at the Yuill Family Gallery located in Medalta in the Historic Clay District, Medicine Hat, Alberta. The gallery hosts exhibition programs that feature local artists, international artists, community groups and organizations, local schools, and internal exhibitions.
Situated within Medalta’s heritage pottery site, the Yuill Family Gallery provides a distinctive industrial backdrop that connects each exhibition to the region’s Historic Clay District while highlighting contemporary creativity.
