Claudia Zilin Shen was born in Guizhou, China and moved to Canada when she was sixteen years old. She is a current Bachelor of Fine Arts student at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. She started participating in group exhibitions in 2022 as a student. She participated in “Artist Choice” exhibitions at Queen’s Park Gallery; the “Beginning’s End: An Artistic and Celebratory Send-Off” exhibition at Langley Centennial Museum. She received the “Award of Merit-Student” when participating in the Fraser Valley Potters Guild exhibitions, both the 2022 Juried Show “Of the Earth.” and the 2023 Juried Show “Transformation.” Her works focus on expressing emotion and exploring the connection between humans and the world, as well as the close communication between each species. She is a full-time student at KPU and lives in Richmond, BC.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
Claudia Zilin Shen is an art student who melds the spiritual world, emotional expression, and earth’s interconnected species through her creations. Her pieces embody the essence of our shared existence, transforming clay into tangible representations of unity and balance. She also focused on the human life cycle and our environmental ties. Her work intertwines our shared experiences, fostering introspection and awareness. Claudia encourages a deeper understanding of our interconnectedness and the delicate balance between humanity and nature through her captivating creations.
