April 5, 2022Alexandra Box (b. 1997) is a an artist and writer. Alexandra is a three-time resident artist at Medalta, first as a student fellow in 2019 which was funded by the North-west Ceramics Foundation and additionally in 2021, 2022 as an artist in residence. Alexandra was raised beside a Carolinian forest in a rural community. Alexandra began her art education at Bealart, London, then continued her material commitment at Emily Carr University of Art and Design. Alexandra also studies the history of art and has completed a residency with the Salt Spring Arts Council, Salt Spring Island. Alexandra is grateful to be working on the kisiskāciwani-sīpiy (Saskatchewan River) in Treaty Seven.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Alexandra Box is a Luddite who relies on clay as her primary material source. Alexandra’s crude approach to form provokes utility towards its most abstract and convoluted use. The work is concerned with the histories of both craft and erotics, as well as the vernacular which encompasses them
