January 7, 2020My name is Corinne Dziuba I’m originally from Burnaby, BC. Now residing in Yellowknife, NT with my husband and 2 Labrador retrievers. I work full time and I’m a ceramic artist part time. I create primarily wheel thrown functional work intended to be used every day.
My journey with clay started when I signed up for a beginner wheel throwing pottery class at the local guild in Yellowknife. After I took the first class I fell in love with clay. The years following I continued to learn and explore new technique and process attending various courses and workshops.
More recently I’ve been working on my studio practises and focusing on developing a new line of work.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My work is primarily wheel thrown functional thoughtful pieces which are intended to be used daily. I want the user to enjoy the handmade comfort of my work such as the handle on a mug while drinking their coffee each morning.
Nature is a common influence for many artists and their work and the same rings true for me. I’m interested in surface decoration that includes a reveal of the natural dark clay body I mostly use. And often my work includes hand painted birch trees which are inspired by the misshaped northern birch trees outside of my studio.
