Brianne Siu is a ceramic artist and has been working in ceramics since 2015. After earning her BFA from Emily Carr University of Art & Design, she has dedicated time to teaching at various art centres across Metro Vancouver including Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, Douglas Park Community Centre, and Roundhouse Arts and Recreation Centre. Brianne currently is a studio assistant to Heather Dahl and is learning about her business in a hope of starting her own in the near future. Meanwhile, she hopes to continue her practice and expand her knowledge in ceramics.
Being born and raised in Canada, I embody both Western and Chinese cultures. Subconsciously, it has been a huge influence in my work where I draw from historical and contemporary references. Ceramics has allowed me to intertwine both cultures in my work to find a sense of belonging. My work has allowed me to express these hidden parts of my identity and to learn more about my culture. I hope to convey what it means to embrace these two cultures and to be able to represent my concepts through ceramics.
