Amiee Risby is from British Columbia and was born in the city of Surrey in 1995. She is working towards her Bachelor of Fine Arts at Kwantlen Polytechnic University and is entering her third year. While pursuing her education she has been involved with many associations including the Kwantlen Art Collective as Vice president, Fraser Valley Potters Guild as the secretary, Surrey CAN Committee and The Guild of BC Ceramics. Risby has shown her work in the Best of BC show during March of 2017 at the BC Ceramic Gallery and at the ACT gallery for the annual FVPG Exhibition from March to April 2017. Risby has recently received an honourable mention for the Tell your story art contest developed through the Kwantlen Faculty Association and the Margaretha Bootsma Award for artistic merit at KPU.

ARTIST STATEMENT

The content of my work deals with anatomical studies that convey the uncertainties of everyday life with a colourful palate and a conversation between forms and materials. The main themes developed are concentrated on maternity, family and the inability to conceive children. While this is a large part of my work I also bring in aspects of women who face the difficult decisions when it comes to unexpected pregnancies. Playing with anatomical structures I often want to see what it might look like if those anxieties physically deformed the human body and revealed the persons mentality as well as their moral.
