September 1, 2017Hailing from the prairies, Tyler Loeffler is fortunate enough to call both Canada and the United States his home. Currently a student at Minot State University, Tyler aspires to become a studio potter in the future. Inspired by ancient Mediterranean forms, he creates functional work that aims to pay homage to these classical profiles in a modern way. Ultimately, he hopes that the pieces he creates can be passed down from generation to generation and bring joy through their use in everyday life.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Functionality is at the heart of my daily work. I create vessels which I hope become part of a person’s daily life, enter into their intimate spaces and in the end become something more than just an object to the owner. I am drawn to the shapes of ancient Mediterranean pots and use glazes traditionally found in China or Japan. Taking inspiration from these ancient forms and cultures I use them in my work adding in modern touches to make them unique.
