March 7, 2018sophia bartholomew is a queer non-binary femme and an interdisciplinary artist. Their practice is rooted in processes of reciprocity and unknowing — cycling through physical layers, membranes, endurance, protection, genuine care, absurdity, and exhaustion. ARTIST STATEMENT
In pursuing a socially contingent art practice since 2011, I have come to appreciate how social contracts formed within different spaces are both malleable and materially stubborn.
I conceive of my residency project as an adaptable ecology of component parts, through which I hope to affirm an embodied approach to art-making, and an investment in upholding values of impermanence, contingency, adaptability, empathy, and vulnerability.
