Engage, Create, and Play in The Discovery Gallery

We have a brand new space to explore @Medalta!

The Discovery Gallery is an interactive children’s exhibition in the Yuill Family Gallery, designed for curious minds, creative thinkers, builders, artists, and young investigators.

Inspired by the stories of Medalta, the gallery invites families to experience history through hands on play. Move between activity stations where you can build with oversized cardboard bricks, experiment with moving gears, decorate a real clay tile, contribute to collaborative art, and investigate authentic historic artifacts just like an archaeologist.

One of the gallery’s newest features is a working model beehive kiln. Open the kiln doors to reveal the glowing “fire” inside and discover how these giant brick kilns transformed clay into finished pottery. It’s a fun way to experience one of Medalta’s most recognizable landmarks up close.

Throughout the gallery you’ll also discover colourful clay sculptures transformed by young artists, community drawing walls, creative building challenges, and opportunities to invent, experiment, and play.

Every station encourages children to learn through creativity, curiosity, and exploration while making connections between art, history, science, engineering, and design. There is no single way to experience The Discovery Gallery. Build, investigate, create, and imagine at your own pace.
