Surface Design Intensive with Dawn Candy
December 14, 2022Model and Mould Making with Angelo di Petta
January 12, 2023This experimental workshop will expose participants to a world of possibilities for working with already fired ceramics such as commercial tile, thrift store wares, pieces from Medalta’s famous shard pile, and their own fired work. These ceramic materials may be glazed or unglazed, each presenting different opportunities and challenges. A range of techniques will be presented through demos and slide shows, including cutting and sandblasting, slumping and fusing, and glaze layering. Whether a beginner or advanced ceramic artist, or coming to ceramics from another discipline, you will be supported in devising and conducting an experimental project that incorporates the ceramic materials and processes that most interest you. Tips and tricks for safely firing experimental work will be thoroughly covered. At the end of the workshop the fired results will be shared amongst the group for the benefit of all.

About Corwyn
Corwyn Lund is a Toronto-based artist who earned an MFA in Ceramic Art from Alfred University after studying sculpture at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). He began working with clay as a resident at the European Ceramic Work Centre (EKWC) followed by residencies at Anderson Ranch in Colorado, Shenkar College in Israel, and the Pottery Workshop in China. Lund’s ceramic work has been part of group exhibitions at the Benyamini Center in Tel Aviv and the Power Plant in Toronto, and has been the subject of solo exhibitions at Toronto’s Zalucky Contemporary and the Fosdick-Nelson Gallery at the New York State College of Ceramics.
Corwyn Lund makes sculptural, architectural, and experimental ceramic works, often using large commercial tile from the construction industry, that establish uncanny relationships between ceramics and photography. Recent wall and floor installations stemming from climate and nuclear anxiety, incorporate neon lighting, slip cast pottery, and 3D clay printed sculptures to evoke the extreme heat of the kiln.
