Artist Facilities
The Shaw International Centre for Contemporary Ceramics is a brand new 12,000 sq ft purpose-built ceramics studio situated amongst beehive kilns, a historic china factory, museum and rattlesnakes in Medicine Hat, Alberta.
All aspects of the art making process have been considered in the design of the building. Large, well ventilated and well lit studios have movable walls to accommodate the needs of all artists. We can accommodate up to eighteen artists at one time in the studios.
Artists have 24 hour access to all ceramic equipment such as slab rollers, extruders, ball mills and blungers. There is a soda kiln, a salt kiln, a large gas car kiln, 7 electric kilns, and a wood kiln. There is a waterfall spray booth, fully stocked glaze lab with task area ventilation, a plaster area, showers, washer and dryer, a resource library, kitchen and a meeting room.
