Julie-Claude Vezeau-Croteau is an interdisciplinary artist, born and raised in Montreal. She received her D.E.C. of Visual art from Cégep Marie-Victorin in 2016 with the Marie-Victorin Foundation’s Visual Art scholarship. Graduated from Concordia University, her artistic practice is articulated around daily life objects. She investigates their past, present and future meaning. The objects around us are filled with our taste, our desires, our culture and our values. Taking the time to understand those is a way to understand ourselves. Julie-Claude expresses her ideas through installation, ceramic, performance and fiber.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I am interested in the narrative potential in the objects of our daily lives. I believe that our quotidian objects reveal to us the ways that we have lived, as well as the ways that we are living. I recreate these objects with cartoonish aspects with the intention of projecting our reflections on those objects. My hope is that a cartoonish exaggeration of our quotidian objects might help transform the reflections that we possess about them in our daily lives. I am particularly interested in objects that are disposable. I wonder how products insert themselves in our memories.
