ARTIST STATEMENT
I create ceramic vessels and use unconventional methods of altering the surface. I dissolve unfired clay with water, erode glaze away with sandblasting, and wash away surfaces to create decoration. I am fascinated with the material properties of unfired clay and fired ceramic and how they are drastically different. Using the traits of these materials, I create work that transforms, and use these actions, along with references to ceramics history in use of forms and materials, to explore themes of hierarchical social structures and the permanent vs the ephemeral.
