Join the picket line and be part of the historic 1947 strike at Medalta.
Drawing on real accounts from court proceedings, newspaper articles and city council minutes, this new play by Medicine Hat resident Jay Johnson recounts the reasoning and rebellion surrounding this game-changing era in Alberta’s labour history.
The performance of Medalta on Strike will lead audiences around and into the old factory where the actual events of this unforgettable story took place over half a century ago.
This signature Medicine Hat presentation is being produced by FIXT POINT, (the company that brought you The Tale of a Town) and presented by The Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre in association with Medalta in the Historic Clay District.
The performance features local talents including Carolyn Freeman, Teigan Follett, Randy Follett and Jay Johnson. Design will be led by Medicine Hat’s Elizabeth Burritt, and the project is led by a trio of well-known Toronto artists including Deanna Jones, Sophia Perlman and Lisa Marie DiLiberto who are staying at Medalta’s new artist residence at the IXL factory as they work with the local team to put the pieces of the play together on site at Medalta.
