ARTIST STATEMENT
‘I explore visual cues of non-verbal communication, or the paraverbal, looking to lure the viewer into replicating expressions or postures before them, signalling an empathetic response. I am fascinated by the intricacies of posture and facial expression as its own means of communication. Clay has the capacity to recreate the more subtle and romantic aspects of our bodies, the way it replicates the weight of flesh. The rawness of the ceramic medium also allows me to reflect on the fundamentality of the process. It is unrefined tactility in kinship with the human psyche that drives my sculptural practice.’
