Back in 1989, we began the daunting task of fundraising to build our vision of a beautiful community hub, historic museum, mecca of ceramicists, and learning centre for children. As you walk towards the glass doors of Medalta Potteries, you can still see the efforts of that campaign 30 years later. The names of our biggest supporters are forever etched into the brick walls near our entrance. Back then, those bricks cost $50, a fair price tag for a facility that cost under $150,000 per year to run, and was highly successful for our needs.

In 2021, the cost of that original vision, now a full reality, continues to grow. There’s a narrative that surrounds us that the Historic Clay District is a government funded institution. Currently only 33% of our funding came from government grants. That means that the future of Medalta depends heavily on the support of the community members we touch. So, we have decided to ‘finish what we started’ in our brick campaign and sell the remaining spaces of our wall.
