Renay Egami is a Kelowna-based visual artist working primarily in sculpture and installation. She received her Master of Fine Arts degree in Fiber and Material Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and completed her undergraduate studies at the Emily Carr University of Art & Design. She is also an alumna of the Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture. She currently holds an Associate Professor position at UBC Okanagan where she teaches in the Faculty of Creative & Critical Studies.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Renay Egami’s creative practice is diverse, conceptually grounded, and employs a wide variety of fabrication processes, visual formats, and materials. Alongside traditional paths in sculpture, she has produced work that expands into immersive installations, textiles, neon, video, and artist books. Over the past twenty years her work has engaged in themes based on place, identity, language, invisible labor, and memorialization. This broad but interrelated constellation of ideas forms the matrix of her work.
