The Black & White Gala in Support of Medalta is one of Medicine Hat’s hottest tickets, all for a great cause: Medalta’s Artistic, Community, and Education programming continues to benefit from the generosity of our community members and we can’t express our sincere appreciation more.
This gala is an elegant and exciting evening of mouth-watering food, exciting entertainment, and live auction action in one of Alberta’s most stunning venues.
But the event is only half of the appeal. All money raised at the Gala is directed to Medalta’s popular and growing programs, which reach tens of thousands of people each year. Medalta has emerged as a provincial cultural and heritage hub. Known for its professionalism in preservation and interpretation of Western Canada’s industrial heritage, Medalta has also earned a reputation as an innovative contemporary arts centre.
By having a voice in both worlds, Medalta has been able to deliver clever, innovative and engaging programs to Medicine Hat residents and visitors. The reason we have been able to grow into what we are today is because of the incredible support we receive from our community. The Black & White Gala is a perfect example of community coming together to support community.

They will help you create the perfect name and label for 20 flats (480 cans) of your beer which will be available for the public to purchase. Once your beer is ready, you will receive 5 flats (120 cans), a poster, and a release party in the tap room for 20 guests. Cheers!
*Final approval by Brew Co management.
Our good friend Editing Luke spent a lot of time researching this piece of Med Hat history over the past few months for his documentary – Clay, Creativity & The Comeback. If you haven’t seen this documentary yet, here’s the gist: These Hycroft Stetson trinkets were produced between ‘48-’78 to commemorate one of the Historic Clay Districts most colourful historical figures and former Mayor of Medicine Hat – Harry Veiner. We have upped the collectible factor by making this one with 22 karat white gold. Giddy up!
Have a 4-course culinary experience tailored for your group of 6 in one of the hottest new lounges in town. The 1911 lounge has drawn inspiration from the prohibition era of the 1910’s to 1920’s while incorporating a modern twist in their drink and food menus. The staff at 1911 are here to ‘Lift Your Spirits Underground’ and that’s certainly what they’re preparing to do for you. Beverages are not included.
Besides being the former chair of the board of the Friends of Medalta Society, Linda Rossler is a master quilter. This stunning quilt represents hundreds of hours of work. This object is an homage to skill and work: two things that Medalta celebrates through our engagement with heritage and creativity.
Get seven of your friends together with tapas, cocktails and former Executive Director Aaron Nelson to help you tap into your creative potential. Prepare to get muddy on the potter’s wheel while making several objects that we will fire and glaze for you. This could be the start of your international art career, or at the very least a memorable evening engaging with material and creativity. Oh and be warned, there is always that one person who is guaranteed to start humming the theme from Ghost.

Jim Marshall is retiring soon! If you’d like your own custom brick mural, this may be your last chance! Bid on this and you will be able to work directly with Jim to customize your own mural to make a statement that will last for generations. It could be a small mural tucked away in your garden or you could chip in with your friends to make a more public statement. Either way, you will be investing in the future as these murals are built to last.
Our most popular auction experience is back! Why not eat dinner in a kiln that was routinely fired to 1250 degrees Celsius? With Zucchini Blossom preparing the food you just know this will be special. Kristine and her team represent the creativity that we value so highly here. The way they think about food and its connection to our lives and landscape is refreshing; what they actually do with the food is magical. Get seven of your closest friends together and pool your loonies to get in on this amazing experience.
