Brick by Brick: A Hands-On Journey Through Medicine Hat Brick & Tile in Historic Clay District
Step back in time to one of Alberta’s oldest industrial sites on June 17th, 2023! The Medicine Hat Brick & Tile Factory (aka I-XL Industries) provided some of the most powerful building blocks of the Badlands: bricks, jobs, and stories. This exclusive experience will take visitors through the factory and its vibrant 130-year history.
This ticketed event is limited to 25 participants and will last for 4 hours. Our objective is to enhance your connection to local culture and history, engage with the community, and gauge interest in future activities of a similar nature.
The event will start at 9:00 AM at the MHBT (I-XL) site. Participants will learn how soft mud bricks are made by making one themselves. You will also get a tour of the MHBT factory from Al Dilman and Malcolm Sissons, who will share their knowledge and expertise on the history of the site. Lunch will be provided, and everything will be done by 1:00 PM.

– Take home your brick at the end of the event
