ABOUT THE ARTIST
Shary Boyle is well-known for her bold and fantastical narrative explorations of the figure, through sculpture, drawing, painting, installation and performance. Her multidisciplinary practice – at once spirited, oneiric and poetic – mines the history of porcelain figurines, animist mythologies and arcane techniques to create a symbolic language uniquely her own.
Boyle is the recipient of the Gershon Iskowitz Prize (2009) and the Hnatyshyn Foundation Award (2010), and represented Canada with her project Music for Silence at the 55th Venice Biennale in 2013. In 2015 Shary Boyle participated in the exhibit in Shine a Light at the National Gallery of Canada, and presented her latest audio-visual performance collaboration Spell To Bring Lost Creatures Home on a 15-date tour from the Western Arctic to Newfoundland.
