Born in Vernon B.C, Rebecca Ramsey currently resides in Vancouver where she teaches pottery in addition to maintaining her studio practice. She recently graduated from Emily Carr University with a focus in Ceramics and has spent time living abroad in an artist warehouse in London, UK, and in Amsterdam where she attended Gerrit Rietveld Academie. Ramsey has written for Maclean’s Magazine and has exhibited work in Prince George (Artists in the Garden), Amsterdam (Door Loop, Gerrit Rietveld) and Vancouver (Exchange Show, Booth Gallery, The Show, Emily Carr.)
As an emerging artist, Rebecca Ramsey embraces an interdisciplinary practice which focuses on exploring the intersections of ceramics, drawing and animation. As a maker, she is deeply engaged with the materiality of clay and its metaphors of memory, time and transformation. She is especially interested in how clay operates in installations with other materials such as film or fabric. Her work often reflects on experiences in the studio, as well as natural and evolutionary cycles and their relationship to notions of becoming and time.
