Xanthe Isbister
Xanthe Isbister was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Honors degree from the University of Manitoba in 2004, and her Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2008.
After her graduate studies she had the opportunity to live and create work in a studio in Roswell, New Mexico. After her time in Southern New Mexico she was invited to be a Summer Artist in Resident at the University of Manitoba, where she also taught for the 2010 spring semester. Most recently she was awarded a Special Opportunities Grant from the Manitoba Arts Council, to attend a year long residency at the Medalta International Artists in Residence in Medicine Hat, Alberta.
Since 2005 she has exhibited nationally and internationally, including the National Conference on Education for the Ceramic Arts and at the Roswell Museum and Art Center in Roswell, New Mexico.
She has had the opportunity to live in and explore remote places around Canada such as Northern Saskatchewan, the North West Territories, and the Canadian Shield of North Western Ontario. These experiences have impacted her creativity and aesthetic, inspiring large ceramic sculptures and installations that explore the psychological significance and impact the natural environment has on human identity.
