EXHIBITION May 9 – 30, 2015
No charge admission to Yuill Family Gallery

The students of Elm Street School have been asked the question, Home: What does that word mean to you?

In order to find an answer to that question, students interviewed many different people, including family, friends,  English as Second Language students from Medicine Hat High School, our Kindergarten buddies who live in a retirement home, and families that have been homeless and are a part of the End Homelessness Program here in Medicine Hat.

The students then took the answers from the interviews and created an art piece to represent what home means to these people. The students have also have also written enthnographies to go with the art piece.

What the students learned through this project is that home is an important, personal concept. It challenged them to think about their own surroundings and how other people in their community live.

This powerful exhibition, created through the eyes of children and facilitated by Medalta resident artist Katie Stone is on display in Medalta’s Yuill Family Gallery through the month of May.
